About Lure of the Labyrinth Lure of the Labyrinth is an online digital math game designed to help build the pre-algebra skills of middle school students. An engaging storyline woven throughout the game guides students into an interactive underworld of mythical monsters and stimulating game play to solve math puzzles. Sectioned into content wings, Labyrinth teaches students 1) proportionality, specifically fractions and ratios 2) variables and algebraic expressions, and 3) number and operations and geometry (area and perimeter). Through the game's multiple puzzles and levels students are provided numerous opportunities to enhance and deepen the learning of these critical foundations of algebra. Students move through the game as individuals or in teams using a blend of computation skills, communication devices and problem-solving skills in order to solve puzzles, earn tokens, and ultimately complete the game. Embedded resources include comprehensive teachers' support materials, an administrative tool to monitor student work, and an online student communicator tool. Lure of the Labyrinth is a collaboration between Maryland Public Television, the Education Arcade at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and FableVision, with support from the U.S. Department of Education.
